Red Tractor Nachos!

Now this is the kind of posters we like!  (@ Original Joe's Kensington)

This week boys and girls we went to Original Joe's (Kensington) thanks to the recommendation Martin Pedersen posted on our facebook page.  This turned out to be one of my favorite nacho venues... I actually think I died and went to nacho heaven!

Original Joe's nachos are Red Tractor Brand.  As you can see in their description, they have a lot to live up to!  I thought they did an excellent job and exceeded my expectations.

They came out in a wicker basket lined with checkered paper.  The first thing we both immediately noticed was the generous amounts of salsa and sour cream.   This is not something that is common among most nacho venues.  So for us, this is a big check mark on our list.

The tortilla chips were not the usual white flour chips, they were the multicolored type, with red, green, and yellow.  I am not sure what they did to them to make them stand out from the usual tortilla chip, but they had this buttery richness about them that I really liked!  ... maybe it was the melted cheese on them, I'm not quite sure but I liked it!

Like the description, there was both mozza and cheddar cheese and all the toppings depicted.  The nachos themselves were thoroughly layered and there were enough toppings for the entire dish.  There was something special about these nachos, and I can't quite put my finger on it... but all of the tastes came together like I have never tasted before!

Three of us shared these nachos, and it was plenty for three and maybe even four.  Everyone around the table agreed that these were an excellent plate of nachos, and I would definitely not hesitate to come back here very soon to enjoy another platter.

I would give Original Joe's nachos 4.5 tortilla chips out of 5.  Amazing job!

Till next time,
Sandra

Today, we went to Original Joe's for a nice little lunch in Kensington. For one, I really like Kensington. I spent a lot of time there while I was in school, and has been one my favorite communities in Calgary for quite some time. The atmosphere is great, people are walking around, shopping, eating, having a great time. It reminds me a lot of Europe! And I love Europe.

So, we walk in, and immediately we're greeted by the bartender, find a nice little spot in the corner.  The server comes shortly after, she greets us, is super  friendly and asks us for our drink order. Today, with our nachos, we tried Velvet Fog, which for those non beer drinkers is a local beer, from the Wild Rose Brewery. We have a few sips and wait for our guest judge to arrive before we order our nachos. Now, I don't frequent Original Joe's a lot, but all of them are a little bit different. I really liked this one, because it does kinda have an older style to it, and it's just very welcoming, and cozy, with large windows.

Finally, our guest judge Dorian shows up, we order our nachos. They came  out super quick. As in, we didn't even have to wait 10 minutes. Service was great in that sense. First look, holy shit these look delicious. The first thing I noticed was, generous potions of salsa and sour cream. They were really colorful with green and red tortilla chips, also very festive since it was just Christmas!

These nachos were everything nachos should be. The cheese was nicely layered and there was plenty of it. All the veggies were delicious and there were plenty of those as well. Everything worked really well, and everything in this platter complemented each other really well. These nachos fed 3 hungry people, but there is plenty to go around for 4 people. There was something magical with these nachos. Maybe a little bit of love and care was put into making them. All in all, Original Joe's knows how to make good nachos.

I give these nachos a 4.5 tortilla chips out of 5. They were great, and another place to add to the list of where to go for nachos for just some good old nachos!

Till later,
Ivona
